Job Description
TITLE: Occupational Therapist
MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months
SALARY: ($6057.63 - $7567.33/month)
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Exceptional Children
JOB GOAL: To facilitate identified students independent functioning with the use of purposeful, goal-oriented activity through screening, evaluation, direct and consultative services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of a four-year accredited program.
- Licensed as an occupational therapist by the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess students using appropriate evaluation tools including standardized tests, clinical observation, and review of medical and educational reports to determine need for therapy intervention plan.
- Develop and implement individualized therapy programs for qualified students.
- Document screenings, evaluations, Individual Education Plans, progress reports, classroom/home programs.
- Provide consultation with classroom teachers and other school staff regarding student’s optimal function in the school environment.
- Provide classroom programs, instruction in management techniques, adapted equipment, and environmental modifications including the identification of architectural barriers.
- Consult with parents and/or guardians regarding students’ therapy programs.
- Adapt, fabricate and maintain specialized equipment required for therapy services or student needs.
- Plans, orders and maintains departmental supplies and equipment.
- Maintain necessary records: including referral, evaluation information, progress notes, data collection, assessments, IEPs, etc.
- Participate with Johnston County Public Schools Medicaid Billing Program for eligible Medicaid students.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Participate with Johnston County Public Schools Medicaid Billing Program for eligible Medicaid students, including participation in the Random Moment Time Studies for Medicaid Reimbursable services.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Strong interpersonal relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
- Ability to develop and compile a variety of records and reports.
