Job Description of the Migrant Education K12 Tutor
TITLE: Migrant Tutor
REPORTS TO: Director of Federal Programs
Pay Grade: Classified Hourly Teacher Assistant
JOB GOAL: Serve eligible migrant students in academic areas. Maximize grant funds and provision of services for an effective educational experience for the migratory population.
QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with Multilingual Learners preferred, organizational and computer skills, an honest work ethic, a desire to serve the Migratory population, good communication skills, ability to work with administrators and schools staff and a willingness to be a team player, flexible with a schedule, bilingual skills preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate with school staff to offer tutoring services for Migrant students.
- Tutor migrant students K-12, on a daily basis and maintain records accordingly.
- Create individualized plans and goals for students that receive tutoring.
- Track historical and current academic progress for MEP students.
- Communicate with administrators about MEP students at their sites.
- Collaborate with teachers to discuss and monitor student progress.
- Assist school social workers and nurses with MEP student issues.
- Establish a tutoring schedule during the day or after school.
- Maintain and organize paperwork indicating what services were provided to students.
- Help identify eligible Migrant students and maintain accurate documentation.
- Call parents and make home visits when necessary.
- Conduct parent interviews and meetings as needed.
- Maintains current and appropriate resources for MEP parents.
- Support parent involvement at district level.
- Collaborate, plan, and support with the MEP recruiter, including taking DPI’s annual-professional assessments to ensure knowledge of the program.
- Complete and submit reports for each student to the Federal Programs office.
- Ensure the program is meeting federal guidelines.
- Participate in regional and district PD sessions to strengthen the department as a whole.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for light work.
