POSITION: Mechanic II 

 

PAY GRADE:

LOCATION: Facility Services

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs vehicle mechanical repairs on a variety of equipment
• Identifies and diagnose complex malfunctions
• Tests repaired and replacement equipment for satisfactory operation
• Repairs and replaces brakes and brake drums

•        Repairs and replaces differentials, drive shafts, front end and steering mechanisms
•       Performs engine tune-ups, repairs electrical wiring, vehicle lighting and ignition systems
•        Repairs or replaces starters, generators, transmissions and clutch assemblies
•        Repairs mowers and mowing equipment, repairs heavy equipment
•        Operates welding equipment where appropriate
•        Physical strength to work with heavy objects
•        Knowledge of safety hazards and safety practices

•         This position will require the person to be able to work alone and operate the auto shop when the Mechanic Foreman is out of place
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or GED from regionally or nationally accredited institution
• Three years experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment
• Technical training in automotive equipment preferred; valid North Carolina 

Commercial Driver’s License
