TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months (50%)
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOALS: The primary purpose of this position is to provide and coordinate career development services to students enrolled in a career-themed, small-learning community within the school. The Career Academy Coordinator’s (CAC) role is to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) and to coordinate the career academy model’s four tenets: 1) academy development and structure; 2) curriculum and instruction; 3) advisory board; and 4) work-based learning. The CAC is responsible for driving the strategic planning and continuous improvement process to build a high-quality CTE career academy that offers students an engaging and supportive learning environment with robust and rigorous career development programming.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES:
- Eligible to obtain the Career Development Coordinator (CDC) license 747.

- Successful Teaching Experience (minimum of 5 years preferred).
- Knowledge of Career & Technical Education &/or School Counseling.
- Knowledge of the workforce that is aligned to the career theme of the schools’ academy
- Experience working in Career & Technical Education &/or School or Career Counseling.
- Strong interpersonal skills with students, staff, parents, and community.
- Strong organizational, resource management, and systems-thinking skills.
- Knowledge of innovative, and research-based practices to improve student achievement.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates career development services for academy students including career awareness, exploration, and planning
- Facilitates career development events including career fairs, college program visits, guest speakers, field trips, mock interview events, internships, and other work-based learning activities for academy students to develop employability skills
- Provides career development, occupational, labor market, non-traditional career and postsecondary data to academy stakeholders
- Collaborates with student services and administration in scheduling academy students to ensure cohort and cross-curriculum instruction are implemented with fidelity
- Meets regularly with core and CTE academy faculty as a Professional Learning Community to facilitate cross-curricular, project-based learning instructional planning
- Serves as a liaison to facilitate employer, education, community, and military partnerships that provide opportunities for academy students and support CTE
- Collaborates with school personnel at feeder middle schools and central services to market and recruit students to the academy
- Collects, analyzes and creates academy data and reports
- Coordinates with stakeholders to promote recruitment, enrollment, and placement activities for students in the academy
- Establish and facilitate an academy Advisory Board that meets regularly to provide opportunities and support for academy students
- Provides timely information to academy students and their families concerning CTE extended learning opportunities
- Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner and interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community
- Facilitates an open-application, recruitment process and retention strategies with the goal of having the academy’s population reflect the broader school’s population
- Assists all academy students with their comprehensive Career Development Plan
- Participates in professional development activities at the local, regional, state, and national levels to remain current with trends, demand, and emerging careers and best practices for career development and career academy programming
- Networks with Career Academy Coordinators, Special Population Coordinators and Career Development Coordinators in the LEA, region, and state
- Adheres to established laws, policies, rules and regulations
- Performs other related work as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, talking, seeing, hearing, & repetitive motion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
