POSITION SUMMARY:  Tutors are essential to the success of the AVID program and are individuals trained to use specific teaching methodologies and materials to work with AVID students. Training will occur after hiring. Tutors work with AVID elective students individually and in small groups in all academic areas. Tutors help students achieve their full potential by facilitating collaborative tutorial groups, guiding them toward academic and personal excellence, and become active participants in the learning, growth, and personal development of AVID students. Tutorials run by AVID tutorials are inquiry-based, use Socratic questioning and collaborative learning techniques that allow students to come up with the answers to their own questions while working with fellow students in small groups. Each AVID middle school and high school has a different schedule for the AVID elective.
