POSITION:  Volunteer

 

LOCATION: Assigned School

 

REPORTS TO: Principal and School-Based Arts Educator

 

JOB GOALS:  An employee in this position will exhibit high moral character and execute scholastic based Arts Education principals. The Arts Education Volunteer will ensure safety of Arts Education students while participating; teach good sportsmanship; establish a welcoming environment for all; and positively influence the students with which they work. This Arts Education Volunteer will work with administration, faculty, and staff to work towards the district’s goals regarding the whole child, academics, and the Arts Education standards. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Previous successful instructional experience in the selected Arts Education discipline preferred. (Dance, Music, Theater Arts, and/or Visual Art)
  • Knowledgeable of all Fine Arts/Arts Education policies approved by the Johnston County Schools’ Board of Education.
  • Knowledgeable of existing system, state, and district regulations.
  • Ability and willingness to organize and supervise Arts Education members/ensembles.
  • Must possess superior knowledge of the technical aspects of the Arts Education discipline and must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the discipline.
  • Knowledgeable of the proper administrative line of command and the referral process for requests or grievances utilizing the proper chain of command.
  • Knowledgeable of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain or acquire all necessary instruction prerequisites annually or as they expire listed by NCDPI, NCMEA, NAfME, BOA, WGI, NCTC, NAEA, NCDEO, & Johnston County Public Schools.
  • Promote the Arts Education discipline/ensemble/program within the school through holding interest meetings and encouraging membership opportunities.
  • Maintain all medical emergency information needed for each Arts Education student, while also understanding emergency protocols if they were to arise.
  • Promote the Arts Education discipline outside the school by being involved in the community, getting involved in Arts Education organizations, and attending required meetings.
  • Provide quality and approved communication to the public.
  • Maintain good public relations with members of the community, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
  • Through the Arts Educator and/or Fine Arts Specialist, prepare and release information to the public including schedules, performances/exhibits, and results.
  • Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught in assigned duty.
  • Provides training, rules, and any other unique regulations of the discipline to each Arts Education student who is considered a participant.
  • Assist with monitoring Arts Education students’ grades and conduct.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each Arts Education student participant through regular attendance at rehearsals and performances/exhibits.
  • Follow policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
  • Complete and submit proper paperwork on all disabling injuries within 24 hours.
  • Assist Arts Education students in their college or advanced educational selection.
  • Collaborate with the Arts Educator to inform and determine discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary, and contacts parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
  • Assist the Arts Educator in facilitating required pre-season meetings.
  • Assist the Arts Educator in scheduling, providing transportation, and requirements for Arts Education events.
  • Collaborate with the Arts Educator and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes.
  • Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled rehearsals and performances/exhibits and adhere to scheduled facility times. Coordinates Arts Education program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment/instrument sites.
  • Accountable for all equipment/instruments and/or collection of fees for any lost or unreturned equipment/instruments. Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning or equipment/instruments and submits annual inventory and current records.
  • Properly mark and identify all equipment/instruments before issuing or storing.
  • Monitor equipment/instrument rooms and Arts Educator offices.
  • Permit the Arts Education students to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
  • Examine Arts Education rooms before and after rehearsals/performances/exhibits, checking on the general cleanliness of the facility. Is responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific equipment/instruments.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building.
  • Instill in each Arts Education student respect for equipment, instruments and school property, its care, and proper use.
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Principal and or Superintendent of schools in keeping with Johnston County Board of Education Policy and North Carolina Administrative Code and Statutes.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to operate required equipment and motor vehicles, use measuring devices, and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data and statistics, work with figures, and records processes, operate a computer, and do extensive research and reading.
